# 1 Lighting of lamp:
It’s an age-old tradition of the lighting of lamps to drive away the darkness. Even today we follow this tradition which has science behind.
Science: When we light lamp, the magnetic force produced by the light is believed to bring about changes in the atmosphere and remove impurities in the air. This refreshes the mind, body, and skin.
#2 Applying Mehandi:
Mehandi is applied for the bride to be married, before the marriage, or any festivals.
Science: It is applied since it is made out of herbs which calms and prevents stress and makes the individual think freely.
#3 Joining hands and greeting:
It’s our tradition to fold hands and greet as “Namaste/ Namaskaram”
Science: The tips of the fingers serve as pressure points for the eyes, ears, and mind and when these are pressed together, our senses are heightened which helps us to remember the person we greet for a long time.
#4 Festivals –Makar Sankranti celebrated, other parts of India celebrated Pongal, Lohri:
Makar Sankranti is the only festival celebrated based on the sun’s position and it falls on a fixed position.
Science: It falls on the equinox day where the day and night equal during winters.
# 5 Kites flying & Sesame ladoo in maker Sankranti:
Science: It is always advisable to absorb sunlight in the early morning during winters and the best way to include it with a fun task is kite flying. Vitamin D is easily absorbed and stored and ready for conversion.
Sesame seeds are known best for its calcium and protein which helps to fight against seasonal infections such as cold and cough. It is mixed with jaggery which is known to absorb better calcium along with the absorbed vitamin D and keep the body fit and disorders free.
